Founded in 2015, Beyond Essential Systems (BES) develops and implements digital health solutions. BES’ flagship software is Tamanu, a modern, flexible, free-and-open-source EMR with a clean, modern interface. Tamanu is easy to configure and doesn’t lock you into licensing fees - you don’t just own your own code, you own all the training resources and system documentation. Tamanu is preparing for launch into the New Zealand market in September 2025, with a primary focus on catering to private hospitals.
BES has delivered projects across the Indo-Pacific and provides Tamanu in settings ranging from small clinics to 400 bed tertiary hospitals.
