Darryl Carey is an experienced, award-winning architect, a Senior Principal with Chow:Hill Architects and founding chair of the New Zealand Health Design Council.
From South Auckland’s SuperClinics to Christchurch Hospital Waipapa, Darryl has earned his reputation as one of New Zealand’s leading health designers with his powerful design intelligence and obvious passion for facilitation and teamwork. Darryl is a master planner and strategic thinker who has been instrumental in shaping many of New Zealand's hospitals and health facilities in the last 30 years. In 2021, Darryl assisted the Ministry of Health to establish a Facility Design & Policy team, Design Assurance framework and delivered the first NZ Design Guidance Notes to supplement the Australasian Health Facility Guidelines. |

The impact of our working environment on productivity can be profound, but it is not well understood. Empirical data is not easy to find, and aversion to risk often leads us to cautiously repeat design that has worked before.
